Type mysqld into the search field on the top right. After searching the web for a solution none of the popular posts could help me fix the problem. The most common problem with MySQL Server not starting is another mysql service running on the same port. This means that any application that relies on a database connection will not work. The problem is that when exiting MAMP the MySQL processes continue to run and are not stopped. So sometimes, when starting MAMP server, the MySQL service fails to start. This was a common problem with past versions of MAMP and it continues to happen for some users in version 4.x.
